Description: DEC Gas Drilling Hearing & Rally in New York City. On November 10, 2009, the Department of Environmental Conservation hosted its first and only public hearing in NYC on the draft report evaluating the potential risks associated with extracting natural gas from the Marcellus Shale. The proposed drilling could be the most significant new industrial activity in New York in a generation and threatens to contaminate the New York City watershed, one of the purest, unfiltered water supplies in the nation.
