Description: The harmful chemicals in computers and other electronics contribute up to 70% of the toxins found in landfills. On January 10, 2009 citizens from all over NYC made a voyage to Tekserve to discard and properly recycle unwanted computers, televisions, VCRs, telephones, and other home electronics at an annual e-waste recycling event. Combined 598 NYC residents recycled 15 tons of e-waste in one day. A model E-Waste Recycling Event sponsored by the Lower Eastside Ecology Center and Tekserve (computer electronics store), serving as a demonstration of what can be accomplished, for the benefit of the community, when a non-profit environmental organization and a socially responsible business work together.
